West Yellowstone

Dave and I thought it was about time we take the kids to Yellowstone. It is ridiculous that we only live 2 hours from a place that people from around the world come to visit and my kids have never seen it. I think we identified a license plate from almost every state in the Union while we were there! We only spent 2 days and 1night but we did so many things in that short time. Besides driving through Yellowstone we went to the Yellowstone IMAX and the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center.

We arrived at Old Faithful just as people were leaving because it had just gone off. We had about an hour and 15 minutes to spare and it was FREEZING so we shopped for sweatshirts before the next eruption.

We were so unprepared for the weather in Yellowstone. There were people from Japan with rain gear on themselves and their children and here we are from Idaho without an umbrella. Luckily a sweet lady from Japan offered us to all crowd under her umbrella as we waited for Old Faithful to erupt. It was pouring rain and regardless of the umbrella we were all sopping wet!

Notice everyone is wearing a new sweatshirt except Aubrey and I because we were the only ones to come semi-prepared!

We stayed the the Three Bear Lodge in West Yellowstone and it was a great hotel. I booked a room with 3 queen beds so we all had a bed to sleep in this time. It is brand new in July because a year or so ago the old lodge was burned in a fire.

The grizzly bears were fun to see at the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center

This bison was all by himself and walking a distance away. We parked by the side of the road and watched him. He came so close to our car that we could have reached our hand out the window and pet him! Dave was supposed to be the videographer and he got so nervous he rolled up his window and forgot about the video!

Me and the kids by one of the steamy basins

We stopped by a waterfall and let the kids play in the water for awhile. I think this was their favorite part of the trip.
